given a forced vacay, it was time to get rid of my donor car. The original plan was to swap the VX parts entirely into the donor car and sell it as a cheap roller/runner, but I’m going to take a loss and sell as a shell just to make some damned room to actually achieve some things

day 1 was getting the donor’s interior back together. dash, seats, and all the interior was just sitting in a jumbled mess in the car for months. getting rarer to find a complete unripped stock interior, so perhaps that’ll have some attraction to someone maybe

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

and then it dumped snow, thanks spring. putting a little damper on my labours, but once you really get working you don’t notice the cold. Well, until later when you notice just how many times you busted your knuckles

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

also day one, bumper, fender liners, hood, exhaust and some a/c components out

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

the sloppy exhaust that was randomly welded and slip joints all over the place was rusted throughout

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

day 2 was releasing suspension parts, more accessories, and clearly identifying what was making the whole of my car oily/wet/greasy

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

steering boots are for losers.

suspension parts on a 94 need some persuasion , was nice to have the right tools for a change

Kinja'd!!!

day 3 and 4 were spent borrowing a hoist, getting out the hard to reach trans engine mount bolt, then actually pulling the engine.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

then also sometime spread across days 3 and 4 was subframe completely out.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

subframe is HEAVY. but mostly just awkward becuase you cant just lift it out with teh engine hoist. and with a jack underneath its all just weirdly balanced. but whatever.

so, out goes the shell to lower my property values. had a couple of friends come over to help wrangle the black car out and the red car in

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

then, I took all the scavenged parts from the donor and put them in front of the red car back on my side of the garage so the wife can park again. Plans for further work will just mean pull out the red car and work on my side of the garage. which of course needs that black car to be bought and taken away.

Kinja'd!!!

I took a few intermissions through my garage time to tend to other issues:

my son had a critical bike failure, not easily resolved with so many stores shut, but I met up my buddy in a parking lot and he had a spare tube for me

Kinja'd!!!

and then I facetimed with another friend to help him replace his hood struts (so the scooter wouldnt be needed again)

Kinja'd!!!

leaving me a final day in the week, having tidied up my own projects, I donned my mask, and went to play with a friends recently acquired project car hell

Kinja'd!!!

currently it’s upgraded brembo brakes dont match the car, needing a corrected proportioning valve, and in the end a new brake booster to replace a broken unit

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

could apparently use some new hood struts like my other friend too

Kinja'd!!!

boost gauge unwired and sitting loose in the engine bay? #selfie

Kinja'd!!!

not it’s only issue. among the list of items we identified needing attention:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

pupper tax

Man, the amount of rust falling out when you hit the impact. And that car looked relatively clean. I couldn’t imagine a really rusty car.

Good luck with the roller. As you said, I imagine someone will want it for the interior.

Side note, your friend’s jack/stands are pretty nifty.  Where is the load placed on those.  It looks like the Subie is kind of just resting on the rockers, but I can’t imagine that’s right.

That sounds like an action packed week. You were even too busy to Rickroll me haha. It has certainly been a while since I’ve seen one of those Civics with an interior that nice so it should sell eventually and appease your neighbors.

for sure, I picked this one up becuase it was rust free. the exhaust was the exception. 8 different pieces of crappy metal welded and rusted together into one continuous piece.

listed if for sale saturday, I’ve had plenty of offers to buy parts, but I’d rather not go that slow part out route with it sitting in my driveway.

here’s hoping it’s gone this week.

You were busy! I got the intake manifold changed on the Cruze, fixed a few small bits on the Volvo, and got it washed and detailed to go up for sale. And I thought I accomplished a lot...

The STi swapped 2.5RS looks awesome. I love the work status list. I need to start making one for my 240.

yeah, that’s a quick jack, like a mini-lilft. It’s sitting on the correct lift points. at either end of the rack there are rubber blocks you can maneuver to line up with the car’s correct lift points.

I told monkee on IG, I really love my quickjack. It’s ridiculously helpful, not that expensive, “portable”. So far I’ve lifted my Cayman, a Veloster N, a WRX, a GEO tracker, and I’ll have to turn them sideways but soon my NB Miata.

For a laugh:

a list is critical.

half the list was made by just lying under the car for a half hour and staring at things.

I have an outline to at least get me started - jack back up to stock ride height, fix oil leak, patch rust holes. After that, I dunno.

also handy to let the local shop make you a list. pay em for an oil change, and ask for an inspection you’ll get a pretty solid list of the basics to get going with.
